Elizabeth Hosmer

Mrs. Elizabeth Hosmer—Southington High School DECA Alumnus

Mrs. Elizabeth Hosmer is currently the System Wide Media Coordinator for Southington Schools as well as a Connecticut DECA alumnus.

Presently, Mrs. Hosmer works for Southington Schools in the AV room and the library. Some of her responsibilities include updates to the Southington High School Website and district site, training teachers to integrate technology into their classroom lessons, and filming new teachers for their portfolios. Mrs. Hosmer attended Connecticut Central State University and majored in Business Education. Dr. Todd Seagraves, a professor at CCSU, positively influenced Mrs. Hosmer to pursue a career in Marketing. She completed her education with a degree from CCSU, her Master’s from Southern Connecticut State University, and her sixth year certificate from Sacred Heart University.

Mrs. Hosmer’s involvement with Connecticut DECA is very impressive. Mrs. Hosmer joined DECA at Southington High School under Dennis Kelly, who is now the fiscal agent for CT DECA. Mrs. Hosmer hesitated to join at first, but with a push from Mr. Kelly, she now explains her experience in DECA as “the best experience in her entire life.” As a dedicated DECA member, Mrs. Hosmer competed at the State Career Development Conference and took first place. At that time, the State Career Development Conference was a two day event where there were many more competitors than today. From there, Mrs. Hosmer traveled to Chicago, Illinois and placed in the top ten at the International Career Development Conference.

In order to give back to Connecticut DECA, an organization that had helped her reach many personal successes, Mrs. Hosmer started the DECA Alumni Scholarship Fund at Southington High School that has now been in effect for ten years.

Mrs. Hosmer remains friends with her past DECA members and helps DECA students whenever given the opportunity and serves as a chief advisor at the state conference every year. Overall, Connecticut DECA continues to be a part of Mrs. Hosmer’s life and she said “being a member of DECA is one of the best remembrances I have from high school.”
