Julie Laven '09

Julie Laven, '09 - 2010 North Atlantic Region Vice-President

Julie Laven, from Shelton, Connecticut, is proud to serve as your 2009–2010 North Atlantic Region Vice–President. Julie has been involved in DECA since her freshman year of high school, and has loved every minute of it. Looking back on her DECA journey, Julie is so proud to have made it this far. When she entered Mr. Necio's marketing classroom, her life changed forever. After becoming involved in various chapter activities as a freshman, Julie had the chance to attend four International Career Development Conferences, two regional conferences, and many state conferences. Once Julie attended her first State Career Development Conference, she knew she wanted to involve herself as much as possible in DECA.

Throughout high school, Julie served as a two year Chapter Vice-President and the 2008-2009 CT DECA State President. While doing so, Julie expanded her leadership skills in ways she never thought possible. During the 2008-2009 year, the CT DECA State Officer Team created an informational video about State Competition.

During the 2008-2009 school year, her advisor approached her about a possible campaign for North Atlantic Region Vice President. Julie spent the remainder of the year building the campaign. With the help of Mr. Necio and Mr. Leete, her family, friends and classmates, the campaign was off to a great start. Once the initial planning was complete, CT DECA flew out to Anaheim, California, were the 2008-2009 International Career Development Conference took place. From the moment the plane landed at LAX, the Shelton DECA Campaign Team was on the go. Between testing and interviews, caucus sessions and speeches, it was a very busy week! The week ended on a positive note when Julie was elected the 2009-2010 North Atlantic Region Vice President!

This year, Julie cannot wait to continue her involvement so that she can Live, Learn, and Lead this year.  While serving the members of DECA, she will be attending Bryant University, majoring in marketing. She is excited to lead every DECA member with passion and dedication. Julie hopes that her enthusiasm for the organization will inspire and motivate members of DECA to make the most of every opportunity. Julie has had so many wonderful opportunities because of DECA, and she hopes to show others that DECA can open the doors to many incredible opportunities.

Keep up with Julie by reading her DECA Officer Journal.  You could also stay in touch with Julie through Twitter, Skype, and Facebook (see DECAJulie).
