President's Message

A Message from Kelsey Brennan, CT DECA President

Welcome to the official Connecticut DECA web page!

I’m Kelsey Brennan, your Connecticut State President. On behalf of the State Executive Council, I welcome you to the 2011-2012 DECA experience. This year, with over 2400 members and over a half century of producing vibrant young leaders, we celebrate our 60th anniversary of the State Career Development Conference. Each decade commemorates the long term achievement of this remarkable organization and accordingly, the Executive Council anticipates an exceedingly successful, industrious year.

We envision a continuance of the growth of Connecticut DECA and the integration of active social media into our roles as officers. We look forward to building relationships with your chapters and serving you throughout this momentous year.

The charity we plan on working with this year is the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Inspired by Luke Christie, the MDA National Youth Chairman, your team decided that we want to focus our time and work efforts on this nonprofit health agency that is dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy. Already, your team is blueprinting fresh ideas, such as a Connecticut 5k for MDA.

This year, DECA week will be full of spirit, pride, and enthusiasm. Last year’s Scavenger Hunt will be made a tradition and other new events will be introduced, including a business attire school day to spread interest for DECA and give students an opportunity to put their professionalism into practice.

We ask that you participate in our contests conducted through Facebook and give us updates on your chapter by posting on our group wall. We want our group to be a critical tool for connecting chapters and a place for idea sharing and comradeship. Each week, a “question of the week” will be featured. We invite you to respond and initiate interaction with students from other chapters.

Social media is the latest tool for networking and as an organization of prevailing young leaders, we plan on adapting this trend to the fullest extent. We welcome you to send us pictures and post videos of your chapter’s events. These pictures may be included in a compilation slide show at SCDC.

I want to have a relationship with chapters throughout Connecticut and strengthen the statewide connections. I’m interested in attending and helping out with any events that I can. Please feel free to ask me questions, invite me to events or share ideas by email, Facebook or cell phone.

The 2011-2012 year will be one of ambition, significance and higher aspirations. Join your State Executive Council in aspiring higher for personal leadership growth, and the growth of Connecticut DECA.

Sincerely,

Kelsey Brennan
Connecticut DECA Executive Council President
