Shelton Delivers for the Holidays!

Shelton High School Delivers Over 1,000 Cards for the Holiday Mail for Heroes Campaign!

SHELTON, CONN., December 16, 2010 – Shelton High DECA recently teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a Holiday Mail for Heroes event at Shelton High School.

Over a one week period, numerous DECA members and Shelton High Students decorated holiday cards for soldiers and their families and for veterans. The cards will be distributed to U.S. Military installations and hospitals around the world with the help of the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes as part of American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes.

Shelton DECA kicked its Holiday Mail for Heroes event on Veteran’s Day, when students in all homerooms were invited to write a greeting for the project. In addition, DECA publicized the Holiday Mail for Heroes event in Shelton High’s cafeteria during lunch and after school during Parent-Teacher conferences.

The Shelton High School community produced more than 1000 holiday cards for the program. Shelton High DECA Marketing Advisor Sherie Goldstein and Shelton High marketing class students brought Holiday Mail for Heroes to Shelton High School.

“Because of Shelton DECA’s commitment to this event, Shelton has influenced other DECA members and other high schools in Connecticut to launch similar projects,” said Shelton High School student August Siu, who is Vice President, Public Relations of Shelton DECA.

Each year, CT DECA supports a charitable organization and this year the State Officers decided to support the American Red Cross.   Between September 7 and December 10, the public was invited to send a “touch of home” through holiday cards that contain messages of cheer and appreciation. The Red Cross and Pitney Bowes will then screen cards for hazardous materials, sort and package the cards, and deliver them to military bases and hospitals, veteran’s hospitals and other locations during the holidays. Pitney Bowes is providing all screening, packaging and shipping at no charge. The Red Cross will utilize hundreds of volunteers to sort and box cards for delivery to service men and women, veterans and family members in November and December.

CT DECA Chapters collected over 2,600 greeting cards for the American Red Cross.  Thank you to all of the Chapters that participated, and congratulations to Shelton High School for their efforts!
